Miss Great Briatin and Weston Super Mare's Grand Pier are proud to announce that the final of the oldest and most prestigious beauty contest in the UK will take place at the Edwardian pier - due to re-open to the public later this month, after a refurbishment programme costing £ 51 million.

Miss GB 2010 final will take place Saturday 4th December 2010.

It is befitting for the two national treasures to come together and celebrate their Britishness in style.

Liz Fuller, CEO of Miss GB, wanted to take the beauty pageant back to its origins. First launched after the war in 1945 to dispel the post-war gloom, Miss GB was then called Bathing Beauties and staged at seaside resorts. It was in Weston-Super-Mare that future film star Diana Dors took part in the contest in the 1940s.

This year again the glamour is brought back to the British seaside and the final promises to be a glittering event in the social calendar.

60 girls from the width and the breadth of the British Isles will compete for the crown of Miss Great Britain 2010 – designed by award-winning jeweller Zoe Harding, and executed by The Jewellery Channel.

Amongst the celebrity judges there are Chris de Burgh's daughter and former Miss World Rosie Davison, East Enders actress Carol Harrison, multi-award winning hairstylist Anestis Cobella, Katie Price's make-up artist and beauty columnist Gary Cockerill, model Jo-Emma Larvin, Holby City star Duncan Pow, Naomi John from Sandstorm Boutique, sponsors of the swimsuit round, and Hollywood film executive Teddy Zee, producer of Hitch and In Pursuit of Happyness starring Will Smith.

A part in Teddy Zee's next film is just one of the coveted prizes the newly crowned Miss GB 2010 will get. Some of the other prizes worth £5000 include a photoshoot in Italy with a one week stay at the 5 star Hotel Raito on the Amalfi Coast.

The sixty finalists will arrive for their 3 day stay at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel in Bristol on 2nd December. The following day they will be taking part in fun challenges on the Grand Pier, including a trial on the first public Formula One simulator.

Public text/phone voting started 4th October and will finish Friday 3rd December with each finalist allocated a special number. The winner of this category will automatically make the Top 12 and gets awarded the Miss Popularity title.
