The Standard boardshorts by Quiksilver and Quiksilver women's bikinis will be sold through the firt ever boardshort/bikini vending machines located poolside at The Standard hotels, online at shopthestandard.com and at The Standard boutiques. This collaborative design project was born out of a shared passion for detail-oriented design and a belief that style isn't about exclusivity or trands but about honesty, authenticity, and above all else, comfort, fun and awesomeness.

The design of the boardshorts is based on original retro design from Echo Beach era (early 80s/new wave/post punk style with colorful wetsuits & flashy surfboards, pioneered by pro surfer Danny Kwock.

There is also a "Standard Issue" bikini that's based on one of the first designs released by Quiksilver women.

These are the first-ever swimwear vending machines, and can be found at The Standard hotel properties in Miami, Downtown LA, Hollywood (soon after in NY). Machines feature touch-screen technology, credit card processing, advanced product previewing, and a video by Cheryl Dunn (which can also be viewed on www.shopthestandard.com) 

Each pair of boardshorts has a list of addresses "Quik Tips City Guide" in the waistband, carefully curated by Natas Kaupas (Skateboarding legend and Quiksilver Creative Director) and corresponding to 5 unique destinations near each of the hotels. Themes for each city are:

• Downtown LA - Art Undercover
• Hollywood - Music Musts
• New York - Summer in the City
• Miami - Comida is Cuban

Boardshort Bag

Official launch event will be a pool party on the rooftop of The Standard Downtown LA on Aug 8th and from Aug 8-16. The hotel will have "ECHO BEACH RETROSPECTIVE, 1978-1982: Surf Culture Art Exhibition" show. The display includes art, photography, paintings, film, vintage beachwear, and surfboards curated by Will Pennartz of The Surf Gallery. The admission to the art show is free.
