The Tourism Authority of Thailand’s office in Paris — TAT Paris — is working to increase Thailand’s visibility and awareness among the French crème-de-la-crème by hosting or participating in a series of high profile talk-of-the-town events that are of interest to affluent niche market target audiences.

Most recently, TAT Paris was one of the key sponsors of the 2009 Top Model France contest organized by casting.fr, the online fashion magazine.

The semi-finals for female contestants was held on February 22nd and on March 1st for male contestants. The final round, which will be held on March 31st, will be broadcast live via the newly-launched CAP24 TV network covering the Paris metropolis and the suburbs. CAP24 has an audience of 800,000.

The online fashion magazine also offers a recruitment service and plays a key role in the French fashion and entertainment industries. The major French TV channels make use of this new media to source potential programming partners and film directors, while modelling and casting agencies use casting.fr for recruiting new talent.

The contest was held at the Salon du Louvre, right in the heart of Paris. The distinguished panel of judges included some of France’s top celebrities. These include Lord Kossity — the French rap artist, Ms Elodie Gossuin — former Miss France 2001 and Miss Europe 2006 and TV presenter for Direct 8 and TF6, Brian Meyeur of Voltage radio station, Mr Kim Luret — chief executive of Crystal modelling agency, Cristina Coudula — TV presenter for M6 TV Channel, Laura Treves — choreographer for the Miss France and Miss Europe beauty pageants. Mrs Pataraporn Sithivanich, Director of TAT Paris, was also one of judges.

TAT Paris made the most of this tremendous opportunity to raise the visibility and awareness of 'Destination Thailand' among the audience of some 1,300 high profile guests, most of whom were either from the fashion and entertainment industry or from media. TAT presented a special screening of the Amazing Thailand, Amazing Value showreel during the interval. Contestants were also asked about their knowledge of Thailand.

TAT Paris will be presenting a seven-day Thailand holiday package as the top prize in both categories. The winners of the Top Model France 2009 contest will be travelling to Thailand and will be spending time in Bangkok and Samui. They will be accompanied by two media representatives who will be on assignment to present a special news report about their visit to Thailand. In addition to TAT, Bangkok Airways and The Kala Samui Island are also sponsoring the trip.

TAT’s participation in the Top Model France 2009 Contest will without a doubt help raise the visibility and awareness of ‘Destination Thailand’ among French celebrities, especially in the fashion, film and beauty pageant circles.

The French are noted for their love of the finest things in life and will rarely hesitate to live the lifestyle of the rich and famous. TAT Paris hopes that by raising Thailand’s profile among the Paris glitterati, some of this star attraction will contribute to increased visitor arrivals to Thailand from France as eager ‘fans’ are tempted to follow in the footsteps of their favourite supermodels and superstars as these celebrities venture to exotic destinations on their journeys of discovery.
