The self-made entrepreneur launched her own line of lipsticks in the early 1990s and is now well-known in the world of make-up.

Sparks hopes to follow in those famous footsteps by launching her own line of mineral cosmetics, which she expects to debut in April.

Now based out of the Covington Wedding Mall, Sparks first launched her business, Zoe Custom Cosmetics, after working for years as a make-up artist and consultant.

She spent a year and a half developing her own line of high-quality custom cosmetics before unveiling the product in April 2007. The overall make-up market and consumer demand prompted Sparks to branch out to the mineral line.

"There's been huge growth," said Sparks, noting a 75 percent sale increase in mineral cosmetics over the last year.

From one consultation to the next, including the many Zoe Cosmetics private "Palette Parties," Sparks continued to hear from women that they "only use minerals."

"There's such a buzz about it," she said.

What makes her business different, Sparks points out, is the expert one-on-one attention she offers her customers.

"Someone can come in and really learn from me," she said.

Before locating in Covington, Sparks traveled all around the country, working in Los Angeles and New York while learning about make-up artistry.

One of her loyal customers is Sandra Krumpelman, of Villa Hills. She first came to Zoe Cosmetics one month ago with her daughter, Laura Schneider, for make-up consultations.

"Jocelyn listens. She wanted to talk first," said Krumpelman. "It was so refreshing. She didn't push any of her products. She worked with the products that I already have."

Krumpelman has since embraced the Zoe line of cosmetics and now returns to Sparks for help with proper application.

Whatever her customers want, Sparks will try to provide.

"If they want it, they've got it," she said.
