"Sweeping eye shadows in pastels are a top trend for Spring '08, especially with the seasonal focus on floral prints and multicoloured layers," says Baccari, whose eyes are circled with a candy-apple green shadow reminiscent of a Jolly Rancher sweet.

For those who want less colour, Baccari suggests trying out a matte foundation for the face, paired with sultry red lips.

"This will complement the '30s-inspired look which is also a major fashion trend," she says.

Baccari has been applying her makeup magic on people for the past 10 years. She began her career as an assistant for a makeup artist in Italy while she was studying linguistics at the University of Naples.

"I didn't finish my studies, because I've always had an artistic side that I wanted to explore," she says.

Returning to Calgary, Baccari worked as an artist for MAC cosmetics for five years, which she credits as being one of the greatest companies in the industry.

"I love that company and I learned a lot," she says. "Then I branched off to do my own thing."

As a freelancer, she says most of her jobs have been acquired by word of mouth, including last year's Calgary Fashion Week, as well as other fashion shows, grad ceremonies and weddings.

"I still get people whose makeup I did in the past look me up on Facebook, requesting my work," she says.

"This makes me feel so good."

She also does private consultations with clients, and for the past nine months, she has been teaching makeup artistry at Artists Within School of Makeup.

"I love it," she says.

If Baccari were a style cop, she would write up this citation: Ill-fitting pants and too-short hemlines on trousers.

"It annoys me when I see men or women exposing bad socks or the backs of their heels just because their pants are too short."

To fix this violation: "I would just walk away from the offender."

What sparked her interest in style: "Being Italian, style is a part of my culture and it is in my blood."
